In the afternoon of this Wednesday, the lifeless body of María Paula Munévar was found in the area of the Javeriana University. The student who was missing since last Friday is just one face of a problem that the country suffers.
This is because data from Legal Medicine show how these cases show a worrying panorama that continues to grow. According to the entity, in 2019 3,788 people disappeared, by 2020 the figure decreased to 2,440 people. Later in 2021 it grew to 3,339 and in 2022 to 3,692 people. So far in 2023, 722 cases have been filed.
It should be noted that 133,236 disappeared persons are still unclassified. This means that the reason for his disappearance or his whereabouts is unknown.
If put into context by gender, an approximate estimate of 65% of the disappeared are men and 35% are women.
Regarding the distribution in the country, Bogotá is the region with the highest rates (18%), followed by Antioquia, with 16%; Valle del Cauca, with 7%; Target, with 6%; and Santander, with 3%.
