It’s a hell of a misadventure experienced this Monday morning by two workers from the town of Visé. Around 6:15 a.m., the two men headed for Avenue Albert 1er to water the flowers there, which are suspended a few meters high.
To do this, and to get to the flowers, watering is done with a pole which is connected to a pipe, itself supplied with water by a heat pump: “And this pump produces noise, the noise of a mower “, explains Charles Havard, the director general of the town.
He comes down from his house
Suddenly, a man started shouting from his window at the two workers. But they didn’t hear anything because of the noise of the pump. Well reassembled, the man came down from his house… penknife in hand. “He was threatening, but he made no gestures towards our men. It was rather towards the material that he had. He wanted to cut the garden hose. He approached them without touching them, ”adds the DG.
But that’s not all. The man went home and returned a few minutes later: “He snatched the pole from the hands of the worker who was watering. He wanted to get into the truck to cut the engine. Inside, one of the two workers was on the phone with the police. The police advised him not to interfere as they would arrive in five minutes. He snatched the pole but he did not cut the pipes”.
Complaint filed
Once there, the police agreed with the two municipal agents: “This gesture is simply unacceptable. If the person is deeply disturbed by the watering, one can peacefully find solutions, it is possible. The elected officials and civil servants of the municipality are easily reachable. In any case, we do not react like that, even less with a penknife. We do the watering very early in the morning so as not to disturb the traffic since it is a flatbed vehicle with a cistern on top. And then, we do not water in summer during the hot hours. We do it either in the morning or in the evening.

A complaint has been filed by the workers and the file will be sent to the Liège public prosecutor’s office: “Our two men were shocked by this scene and have a certificate for a few days. As far as we are concerned, if the prosecution continues, we will claim the costs that the absence of the workers will cost us”, concludes Charles Havard.
