The inhabitants of the Urban District of Baia, in the municipality of Viana, benefited, this Tuesday, from free medical consultations, as part of a fair promoted by the administration of the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone.
The activity takes place in reference to Universal Health Coverage Day, which was marked yesterday, and aimed to promote awareness regarding the need for equitable access to quality health services.
In addition to free pediatric consultations, vaccinations and blood pressure measurements, the fair also served to distribute medicines and hospital equipment to the population.
According to the director of the Social Responsibility Office of ZEE Luanda-Bengo, Teresa Issenguele, the aim of the act is to bring primary health care to the residents of Baia, specifically in the 30 market area.
The official added that the fair brings together 15 entities, including clinics, medical centers, pharmacies, suppliers of medicines and hospital equipment.
For his part, the administrator of the District of Baia, Bunga Filipe, said that the initiative is commendable because it alleviates the flooding in the only hospital unit in the locality.
According to him, the approximately 75 thousand inhabitants of Baia need measures like these to improve their living conditions, which is why they are waiting for other similar activities.
The fair is supported by the Specialized Center for the Treatment of Endemic Diseases and Pandemics (CETEP), Zango 8000 Medium Health Institute and Jean Piaget University.
The Municipal Health Directorate of Viana, Colégio Maria Augusta, Colégio Sagrado Coração de Jesus, Bairro Baia Neighborhood Committee, INEMA and the Health Youth Association for help in the Communities are other partners in the activity.
