Distribution of 800,000 kilos of food to soup kitchens and community centers began

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Social Development (MDS) has begun distributing food to 356 community organization soup kitchens, including 80 located in indigenous communities. The plan is to complete the first stage of delivery within a period of two months.

A batch of 208,000 kilos of food began to be distributed this week, as part of the 800,000 kilos of food supplies destined for the 356 organizations approved by the MDS.

The director of the program, Miguel Kurita, said that for better organization this year, applications were received since January, and that this allowed for optimizing planning for the entire year.

“In total, 700 applications were received, of which 356 were approved. “We approved this number because they met all the requirements of the program, however we hope that next year the other organizations will be able to regularize their situation and comply with the requirements of the program, which on this occasion will even be reaching indigenous communities,” he added.

“A total of 29,000 people nationwide will benefit from the assistance of community kitchen organizations. We are talking about people in extreme vulnerability. It is important to note that this action complements other missionary programs carried out by the Ministry of Development,” added Kurita.

In the planning envisaged at this stage, the program contemplates deliveries of food inputs to food organizations in the Central department, punctually in the districts of Luque, Ñemby, Guarambaré, San Antonio and Itá.

The Community Dining Halls and Centers Program is one of the mission programs of the Ministry of Social Development, which aims to contribute to the improvement of food and nutritional security conditions for people living in poverty.
