Wien – Distractions such as talking on the phone, typing a text message or drinking from a water bottle can lead to serious traffic accidents. Such carelessness is responsible for 30 percent of all accidents in road traffic and is therefore the number one cause of accidents, according to a current study by the ÖAMTC, findings from a new traffic observation by the Road Safety Board (KFV) and the accident statistics. Last year there were 10,176 distracted driving accidents in Austrian road traffic. 11,543 road users were injured and 95 were killed. After a decline in the pandemic years, the number of distracted driving accidents has now risen once more.
