The criminal lawyer disputes the term “operational cell” used by the juror, in a question addressed to the witnesses who are intelligence specialists, to designate the hideout on rue du Dries in Forest. This term denotes a bias in the head of the juror, according to the lawyer.
The juror asked “what was the state of mind within the State Security when (this service) discovered that there was an armed operational cell in the rue du Dries”.
The request for recusal made by Me Paci was supported by Me Laura Séverin, counsel for the accused Sofien Ayari. The two criminal lawyers have claimed since the start of the trial that their respective clients are not involved in the attacks which tore the Belgian capital apart, Me Paci arguing that Salah Abdeslam wanted to go to Syria following the attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015.
The president of the court, Laurence Massart, suspended the session in stride.
