A dispute between siblings over Christmas presents ended fatally in the US state of Florida. A 14-year-old shot his 23-year-old sister at Christmas, police said. According to the information, she was holding her eleven-month-old child in her arms during the crime. “The baby was not injured because he was in a baby carrier,” Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said at a news conference.
Following the fatal shot, the 15-year-old brother of the victim and the shooter opened fire on the 14-year-old, seriously wounding him. The police were ultimately able to catch and arrest the two brothers. The sister was pronounced dead at the hospital.
This was preceded by Christmas shopping. “They were all arguing and had this big argument regarding what happened at the grocery store and who gets what and who doesn’t get what for Christmas,” the sheriff said. “I’ll say it sarcastically, (…) that’s what you do when you have a fight with your siblings, you take out your guns and have a shootout,” he added.
According to him, the teenage brothers routinely carried weapons around with them. He complained that the laws were not strict enough and that children should not have weapons with them.
