Everything indicates that 2024 will be a year without many new features for Disney’s big franchises, but the same cannot be said for the next two years.
The Walt Disney Company has revealed the release date for its biggest productions, which include new chapters of Star Wars, Toy Story, Tron and the remake of Moana.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled for release May 22, 2026 and will be the first Star Wars film since 2019 following the franchise ended the last trilogy with Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. The new production will be a derivative that will continue the events of The Mandalorian series.
The next big release will be Toy Story 5, scheduled to hit theaters in June 19, 2026. Just like Star Wars, Woody, Buzz and other beloved faces have not appeared in the cinema since 2019. It is worth remembering that Toy Story 4 was a resounding success, with no other production from the studio having repeated its results since then.
The third film in the Tron franchise, which will star Jared Leto, is scheduled for release October 10, 2025. Disney took 28 years between the original film and Tron: Legacy, with Tron: Ares arriving 15 years following its predecessor.
Lastly, Disney will delay the live-action remake of Moana from June 27, 2025 to July 10, 2026. Apparently, the company’s decision aims to create a larger space for Moana 2, which will premiere in November this year, and the new production starring Dwayne Johnson as Maui.
The spy film The Amateur with Rami Malek and Rachel Brosnahan has been postponed until November 11, 2025while the horror comedy Nighbitch starring Amy Adams will be released in December 6, 2024.
