News hardware Disney has officially overthrown the giant Netflix and the consequences are terrible

The figures have just fallen: Netflix’s streaming platforms have more subscribers than the great rival Netflix. Disney + on its own aims to overtake the king of streaming in the near future.
Netflix is having a tough time and will soon be caught up by Disney+
At the moment, things are not going very well for Netflix. In the first half of 2022, the American giant lost around 1.2 million subscribers. It is enormous.
That being said, even if this shortfall is historic, it must be put into perspective. Netflix analysts themselves had rather expected a dead loss of approximately 2 million subscribers. Losing 1.2 million people is almost good news for them.
With successive price increases, ever-increasing competition and even the Ukrainian conflict (Netflix has ceased its activities in Russia), seeing subscribers flee seems perfectly understandable.
Thanks to its higher prices than ever, Netflix still achieved a net profit of nearly $1.5 billion during the second half of 2022. To maintain good momentum, the company even plans to:
- Proposer a cheaper plan than ever… but with ads
- More actively prevent account sharing to force more people to subscribe
In short, the current period is much more difficult than usual for Netflix, the company is very far from being in the big trouble.
Disney is experiencing extremely strong growth, and we’re going to pay for it
While Netflix rows, Disney floats.
Not everyone knows it, but Disney+ is not the only streaming platform in Mickey’s house: Disney also owns Hulu and ESPN+, very popular services across the Atlantic.
- With his recent loss, Netflix only has 220.67 million subscribers (figures for the month of June 2022).
- The 3 Disney platforms combined now have 221 million subscribers.
Of these 221 million paid subscriptions, 152 million are for Disney+. The queen platform of the entertainment giant is experiencing extremely rapid growth: in the spring of 2022, more than 14 million people gave their credit card code to the company with big ears.
If Disney+ continues its momentum and Netflix stagnates, or even continues its regression, it’s only a matter of months before the platform that hosts Marvel catches up with the one that produces Squid Game.
This success has a painful consequence. Now that Disney has attracted huge crowds with its Disney+-only blockbusters and half the price of Netflix, the emperor of entertainment is going to hook the fish by… increasing his prices (if you want to continue to pay as much as today, you will have to deal with ).
For now, only the United States is affected by this tariff increase, but our turn will come, for sure.
