According to a press release sent on Tuesday to several media by his lawyer, the complaint for sexual assault which targeted the French specialist in the 400m hurdles Wilfried Happio was dismissed.

The complaint against the French international athlete Wilfried Happio for sexual assault “has been closed without further action,” his lawyer said on Tuesday in a press release to several media, including AFP. “The elements of the file brought to our attention, the testimonies as well as the explanations and the constant version of Mr. Happio were inevitably such as to demonstrate that the facts of which he was accused were manifestly false. Wilfried Happio now wishes to concentrate fully on his career sporty”, writes Me Anthony Mottais in the press release.

Happio (24), specialist in the 400m hurdles and medal hope at the Paris Olympics in 2024, was the subject of a complaint filed at the end of June 2022 by another international athlete. The complainant denounced touching during an evening in September 2021 at the National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance (Insep). Insep had not sanctioned Happio following an internal investigation.

Happio had been hit in Caen

Wilfried Happio had himself lodged a complaint after being hit in the face on June 25 in Caen (North) during the French Athletics Championships by the complainant’s brother. The latter had come to hit him on the warm-up track, injuring his eye. The hurdler had still played the final of the 400m hurdles twenty minutes later… and won the national title by exploding his personal best at the time (48”57).

The episode had highlighted this hope for French athletics, but also initiated this dark legal soap opera, a chapter of which ended on Tuesday. Happio then experienced meteoric progress in 2022, taking 4th place at the World Championships in Eugene (Oregon, United States) in July before winning the silver medal at the Euro in Munich (Germany) in August.
