The reaction to a whale video was probably different than expected. Instead of being fascinated, most users expressed their displeasure in the comments.
Kassel – Everyone tries to show their best side on social media. A Instagram-Channel shows its community, for example, nature photos and animals. But a video showing a diver swimming with whales was not well received. According to the comments, the wildlife influencers would have been better off leaving the largest and heaviest animals in the world alone.
Strong criticism for whale video: “Where is that legal? Let alone respectful”
The post itself is described with the words “Wall of Whales,” and the channel continues: “Twenty humpback whales in one pass, a magical moment, for sure. Nature is simply fascinating, and we were very lucky to witness this spectacle today.” However, users are sure that the whales would have preferred to forego the spectacle.
“Such disruption to wildlife should not be encouraged,” one user criticizes the video, another person agrees. “They obviously got ahead of them, cut off their path and jumped on almost all of them. This is not a pleasant experience, it is an interference with nature. Leave her alone. Observe from a distance.”
Nature Channel receives harsh criticism: Post with whales backfires
“Oh look, we humans are destroying nature for the thrill and social media,” reads another critical comment. “Looks a bit like you forced her to dive. Was it worth it for your 2 seconds of fame?” asked another user.
“At first it seems exciting, but I agree with the critics who say this behavior is detrimental to the welfare of these animals,” said another person, summing up most of the critical comments well. Whales are becoming increasingly rare and mass strandings of whales continue to occur. All the better that 100 stranded whales in Australia got a happy ending and were rescued. (kiba)
