The kidneys are considered one of the sensitive vital organs, and their integrity is linked to the enjoyment of good health in the body, and this explains why they are often affected by some diseases.

Diseases affecting the kidneys
1- Diabetes
Diabetes mellitus poses a great threat to the health of the kidneys, as it increases the risk of kidney failure, if it causes damage to the blood vessels feeding them and the nerves controlling the bladder.

2- Anorexia nervosa
A psychological disorder that causes a person to completely avoid food or eat little of it, which leads to weight loss, and then low levels of vitamins, minerals, water and salts in the body.
Kidney failure is a serious complication of anorexia nervosa, so those with it must go to a nutritionist to determine a balanced diet for them to maintain weight, and to consult a psychiatrist to help them get rid of fears regarding food.

3- High blood pressure
High blood pressure may result in kidney failure, and the reason is due to narrowing of the blood vessels feeding the kidneys, which leads to a decrease or cessation of the flow of oxygen-laden blood to them.
And with the lack or interruption of the blood supply to the kidneys, it becomes unable to perform its vital functions, such as urination, which leads to the accumulation of waste in the body, and therefore, the patient becomes in need of dialysis.

4- High cholesterol
High cholesterol may accumulate in the arteries feeding the kidneys in the form of fatty plaques, which impedes oxygenated blood from reaching them, and the patient becomes susceptible to insufficiency of kidney function, and then kidney failure.
5- Lupus
A disease that causes the immune system to attack the body’s organs, including the kidneys, putting them at risk of developing lupus nephritis. Its symptoms include:
– The appearance of blood in the urine.
– The appearance of foam in the urine.
– Hypertension.
Swelling of the extremities.

6- Blood clots
Decreased blood supply to the kidneys may be due to the presence of a blood clot in the renal artery, preventing blood from flowing to them in the required amount.
