Art historians claim to have succeeded in identifying the bridge that is the backdrop for the painting Mona Lisa. This might answer the question of where the painting was made. So, Where is the Mona Lisa painting located??

Silvano Vinceti who works on the Le Rocca Cultural Association project got his idea following looking at historical documents and comparing them with recent landscapes using drones. Vinceti believes the bridge in Leonardo da Vinci’s painting is the bridge at Romito in Laterina, Province of Arezz.

“Only one arch remains of the bridge today, but in the period between 1501 and 1503 it was functional and very busy, as shown by the Medici family property asset status document, found in the State Archives of Florence,” he said. IFL Science, Friday (5/5/2023).

Previously, people thought the bridge seen at the Mona Lisa was the Ponte Buriano on the Arno River. However, the bridge in Leonardo’s painting has four arches, just like Romito’s. By contrast, Ponte Buriano has six arches.

In the past, Romito served as a shortcut between Arezzo, Fiesole and Florence. The suspicion grew stronger following documents examined by Vinceti showed that da Vinci often lived in Fiesole with his uncle, a priest named Amadori or Amadoro.

Today, only one Romito arch, which stretches across the river Arno, remains. So, naturally, the shape of the bridge is no longer 100% the same as it used to be.
