With beating hearts and eyes full of curiosity, the students of the 2024 generation entered a guided tour to discover the corners of the Faculty of Medicine, a place that will become their second home for the next few years.

The Social Service medical interns played the friendly role of guide, introducing their new colleagues to the facilities. Between laughter and dialogues full of shared dreams, the students explored the “Dr. Valentin Gomez Farías”; sports fields; the General Secretariat; the direction; the Coordination of Community Services; the Secretary of School Services; Cafeteria; the Pumabús stop; the parking lot and the Research Tower, among others.

Once the tour organized by the Coordination of Community Services (CSC) had finished, they went to the 5th floor of building “B” to participate in the Circuit “And you, do you play with your mental health?”, an activity created by the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health (DPSM) of the Faculty. The dynamic was coordinated by young volunteers graduated from the Diploma in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapeutic Interventions, as well as students from the UNAM National School of Social Work, headed by Dr. Olga Robelo Zarza, head of the Mental Health Communication area, and the Dr. Claudia Erika Ramírez Avila, head of the Continuous Training area, both from the DPSM, as well as assigned personnel from the Social Work area of this Department.

The objective of this circuit is for new students to recognize the importance of generating strategies for self-care, learn to regulate their emotions, solve conflicts and know how to relate effectively to build a satisfactory school life. It was divided into four stations, each one lasting 20 minutes: in “The House of Mirrors” they simulated a discussion between a teacher and the students and talked about possible solutions to the problem; in “Wolf, are you there?” They knew the functions of emotions such as fear, joy, sadness, anger and affection.

In addition, at the “Storytelling” station they created a story to challenge their interpersonal skills and recognize the importance of effective communication; and in “La cocinita del amor” they had fun preparing a salad with eight ingredients that represented different aspects of their lives, such as family, hobbies, physical activity, among others, of which they selected those that have priority at this time of their lives.

Much success in this new stage!
