British astronomers at the University of Central Lancashire have discovered a very large cosmic structure that challenges current theories of the universe, in the form of a large ring in the sky of objects, which they called the “Big Ring.” It is 9.2 billion light-years away from Earth, and its diameter is 1.3 billion light-years. Its circumference is four billion light-years, and its enormous diameter can accommodate 15 moons side by side.
Alexia Lopez, a professor at the university and the lead researcher in the study, said: “It is interesting that this is not the first cosmic wonder discovered by university scientists, following they discovered two years ago another similar structure, which they called the ‘Giant Arc in the Sky,’ 3.3 billion years away.” “Photoscopic.”
She added: “We also discovered that the large ring and the giant arc share almost the same cosmic neighborhood, because they are at the same distance, throughout the same cosmic period, and are separated by only 12 degrees in the sky.”
Alexia Lopez added: “Cosmologists calculate the current theoretical limit for the size of the structures as 1.2 billion light-years. However, both of the newly discovered structures are much larger than that, and the giant arc is three times larger, and the circumference of the large ring is similar to the length of the giant arc, and according to theories.” “In the current universe, we didn’t think structures on this scale were possible.”
