MÁLAGA. The interest of Nubia Nigrelli by psychology began very early, almost unconsciously. Born in Argentina, at the age of 9 she came to live in Spain with her family. She “she was a girl with many concerns. To the astonishment of my parents, she asked me questions about the meaning of life. Later, I started searching for answers on the internet, but I ended up even more lost. At one point, I decided that the best thing would be to study psychology, and so I did. In addition, I traveled for years through Asia and Latin America, getting to know other cultures.”

Nigrelli participated last week in Leadingirlsthe days held in the Malaga Fair and Congress Palace (FYCMA) to value the talent STEAM feminine and make references visible with the aim of awakening scientific-technological vocations among Secondary and Baccalaureate students.

After graduating, Nigrelli opted for clinical psychology. He “Wanted to treat people with serious mental disorders: schizophrenia, bipolarity, major depression, etc.” When he began his internship at the Civil Hospital of Malaga, she came face to face with reality. “The health system does not have enough resources for us to be able to treat patients with the care and follow-up they require,” she explains to Innovaspain on the other side of the phone. In addition to saturation, the expert mentions another handicap: “In Spain, people are hyper-medicated, also in the field of mental health. “It is a delicate issue, which includes the interests of the pharmaceutical industry.”

Without being able to help patients as she would have liked, Nubia Nigrelli faced a complex personal moment. Added to the post-university anxiety, full of uncertainty, was the death of her grandmother. “I asked myself what tools I could apply to myself. I discovered meditation as a mindfulness training to break the vicious cycle of negative thoughts that fuel stress, anxiety or depression. When you stop fighting against that loop through meditation, mental peace and clarity come that allow us to breathe and gain strength to see everything more clearly.”

After a stint in London – first as a waitress and then in an educational center for children with special needs – Nigrelli spent the pandemic in Spain, a time in which she was able to reflect on the next steps. “I worked as a robotics educational coordinator, but I discovered that training artificial intelligences for seven hours a day was not for me.” She decided to start a business and added her training as a coach to her knowledge. Among her clients –people and companies– we find some who have been undergoing medical treatment for more than a decade. “Working with certain profiles is very hard, because before they have not been able to have sufficient mental clarity to observe their life and change their perspective, make appropriate decisions with each one’s values.”

His most ambitious project is Lyhla, where meditation merges with other of his great passions: art, nature and technology. Located in the National Digital Content Pole of Malaga, the startup wants to bring virtual reality to mindfulness experiences. The most ancient techniques for promoting mindfulness and emotional well-being come together in a whole new way. The first chapter of this adventure is Lyhla Window, available soon. “The possibilities are enormous, but we have to go step by step, combining the accumulation of scientific evidence with new developments and, later, the incorporation of artificial intelligence. The objective is for 360 environments and experiences to gain in complexity until total immersion,” concludes Nubia Nigrelli.
