  • sorae – Earth-like exoplanet discovered 300 light years away. If there is an atmosphere in the survivable region, is there also water?

This was introduced by sorae in an article on April 17, 2020.Size comparison diagram of Earth and Kepler 1649c“is.

Researchers discovered an exoplanet called Kepler-1649c, located approximately 300 light-years away in the constellation of Cygnus, using observation data from NASA’s Kepler space telescope. Kepler-1649c’s diameter is about 1.06 times that of Earth, and it orbits the red dwarf star Kepler-1649 every 19.5 days.

Kepler-1649c’s orbit is within its host star’s habitable zone (a region where liquid water can exist on the surface of a terrestrial planet). Research has calculated that Kepler-1649c’s equilibrium temperature

is between -59 and 19 degrees Celsius, which is close to Earth’s equilibrium temperature (-18 degrees Celsius). If Kepler-1649c has an atmosphere, it is possible that the greenhouse effect would maintain a moderate temperature and create an environment where liquid water exists on the surface.

*…Temperature that takes into account only the energy received from the host star and the energy radiated from the planet, without taking into account the existence of an atmosphere.
