Companies loyal to Nice Côte d’Azur airport

Vueling, Delta Airlines and Emirates remain loyal toNice Côte d’Azur airport and continue to develop their offering.

Vueling, a company based in Barcelona, has reached the milestone of 2 million passengers at Nice Côte d’Azur airport. It has been present in Nice since 2007 and connects Barcelona with three to four daily flights. This year it is celebrating its 20th anniversary and two decades of presence in France.

This year, Delta Airlines is relaunching its daily non-stop flight from Nice to New York from March 30 for the entire summer. This is the 32nd year of collaboration with the Riviera airport.

This connection connects to the American network via the company’s hub at JFK airport and also attracts many New York tourists to the Côte d’Azur.

With Emirates, head to Asia. This Thursday, April 4, the Emirati company is celebrating two events: the return of the A380 to the Nice tarmac and 30 years of collaboration with the Riviera airport. A successful landing.

For the occasion, the director of Emirates, Cédric Renard, was present alongside the president of the management board of Côte d’Azur airports, Franck Goldnadel. In 1994, it was still the Mitterrand presidency, emphasizes Franck Goldnadel, smartphones did not exist and few travelers knew how to place Dubai on a map! The first flight took place on July 15, 1994. An era that has also passed away.

In 30 years, Emirates has transported 2.8 million passengers between Nice and Dubai, which has become the 4th most visited city in the world.

He underlines : “With Emirates, for 30 years, we have been connected to the whole world, thanks to its hub in Dubai, an incredible hub which opens the doors to Asia and the Indian Ocean for us.”

The company managed to get through the Covid crisis, thanks in particular to its cargo activity. An essential activity maintained to transport vaccines, “1 in 6 vaccines have been delivered worldwide by Emirates.”

Since then, the company has recovered from these global turbulences. Emirates offers 144 destinations which opens the route to India, Vietnam, Thailand, the Gulf countries, Mauritius…

Buoyant winds thanks to a “premium” clientele on the French Riviera. Individuals in economy class also appreciate it. As proof, the planes have a occupancy rate of 81%.

This progression is boosted by local companies which also send their products in the cargo part of the plane: essential oils, perfumes, spare parts, vaccines. The freight activity totals 8,500 tonnes of goods transported in 2023. A profitable dynamism: it is the 1st cargo carrier in Nice.

Currently, every day, a plane takes off from Nice and takes an average of 5 hours 25 minutes to connect to Dubai airport. These rotations have become daily since 2010.

This spring is marked by the return of the A380 to the Nice tarmac. The plane had been grounded for a facelift with the rearrangement of the cabins. Cost of this facelift: 2 billion dollars.

This year, the immense aircraft will not be idle! It will certainly transport tennis champions and spectators to the Rolex Masters in Monte-Carlo, film stars to the Cannes Film Festival, the most beautiful calves of the Tour de France and athletes from around the world to the Olympic Games.

Emirates director says “optimistic” for the future of the company: IATA, the international air transport association, predicts a doubling of flights by 2040. Which raises the question of air pollution generated by this more intense air traffic.

The director assures that Emirates takes into account the environmental impact. A fund of 200 million euros finances research and development in this area. Cédric Renard claims that the A380 is less harmful to the environment because its size allows more passengers to travel.

A successful company that continues to invest: 300 planes are ordered and the recruitment of flight crew continues, including French employees.

But how can we explain this success in the aviation sector, a very competitive sector?

Cédric Renard replies that it is a team effort, “a collective success”, a service offering that appeals to a demanding clientele. The destination is no longer the only objective, having a good time in flight, managing to fall asleep, eating a good meal and not encroaching on the neighbor’s shoulder and landing gently… to keep only the pleasure of travel in the air. A way to start the vacation off right.
