It was then a letter dating from 2014 which spoke of the life and family of a certain Jim Green, a history enthusiast who lives nearly 15,000 kilometers from Quebec, in Whangamata in New Zeeland.

After his discovery Stéphane Munro asked his fishermen friends to help him in his search for Green.

“I had to find the person who sent the message and tell them that their bottle had been found so far away. If I were in his place, I would like to know,” Stéphane Munro told the New Zealand Herald.

After weeks, his brother finally came across an article regarding Jim Green on the Bay of Plenty Times website.

After failing to contact Green on social media, Munro wrote to the Bay of Plenty Times who then took it upon themselves to put the two men in touch.

A hundred capsules

Contacted by the Journal on Saturday, Mr. Green did not respond to our request for an interview, but he explained to the New Zealand Herald that he would have sent many similar time capsules across the globe.

“I’m just doing this for someone to find the message I left behind when I pass away,” he said.

From Sydney to Australia via the Canadian maritime provinces and even the United Kingdom, nearly a hundred bottles would have set sail with its history inside.
