This fall, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris is presenting the latest paintings by the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. You can view this exhibition until February 4, 2024. And, to learn more regarding Van Gogh’s life, watch the video.
Who is Van Gogh?
Vincent Van Gogh is a world famous Dutch painter. He was born in 1853 in a small village in the Netherlands. He is the eldest of a family of six children, with a pastor father. After giving up being an art dealer, he works tirelessly on his passion, painting. His brother Théo often gives him money to help him live.
At 35, Vincent moved to the south of France, to Arles, attracted by the light of the South and obsessed by the color yellow. He paints there with small brush strokes the famous Sunflowers or Van Gogh’s Room.
One evening, following a violent argument with his friend the painter Gauguin, he cuts off a piece of his ear. To regain your mental health, he was interned for a year and composed numerous paintings as The starry Night, with swirling shapes.
At 37, Vincent moved near Paris, where his brother lived, and he painted almost a canvas a day in two months. But his psychological weaknesses catch up with him and he dies following shooting himself in the chest…
Productive artist, he created more than two thousand works, including his famous self-portraits. While Van Gogh failed to make a living from his art, his paintings now sell for millions of euros. These works are visible in many museums around the world.
