Mexico City is certainly a city that fascinates the fashion world today. The Mexican capital will in particular host the Dior cruise show on May 20, which will showcase its work with local craftsmen on this occasion. Vanessa Bruno, too, is inspired by the ancient Aztec capital in this spring of 2023, with a capsule collection dedicated to Mexico.
“I find it great what Dior does by having local craftsmen work for luxury products. It’s no coincidence that they chose Mexico City and so do we. If several brands are inspired by a subject or a place, it’s that there is a special energy that emanates from this city, explains Vanessa Bruno. Luxury makes its fashion shows. What I like is to travel, to meet cultures and to share these discoveries with our customers. In Mexico City, there is incredible energy and creativity, whether in cuisine, art, architecture or fashion. What interested me was to share how a young generation is reinterpreting the traditions”.
The French premium women’s ready-to-wear brand founded in 1996 is therefore delivering a capsule of fifty ready-to-wear pieces and as many accessories which will be marketed until mid-July, with in particular dedicated concepts called ‘ Mexico mi Amor” in its seasonal boutique in Saint-Tropez and in Paris.
The capsule, which comes as a continuation of the main collection of the season, consists of large light colored dresses with floral or graphic prints, as well as numerous accessories and raffia bags playing with visual elements reminiscent of Mexico. It will also be offered at Galeries Lafayette and Printemps Haussmann, at Bon Marché and in the boutique on rue Vieille-du-Temple in Paris as well as in Lyon.
For the occasion, Vanessa Bruno, who has been offering her invitations to spring travel for five years, shares her vision of a Mexico of today by making her flagship store at 25, rue Saint-Sulpice, in the sixth arrondissement of Paris , a real concept-store reinterpreted by drawing inspiration from the codes of the house of the Mexican architect Luis Barragán, which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On the spot, the collection is put forward but, around furniture that she has hunted at the Mexico City market, the designer has also invited local designers, actors of the craft scene of the city, who reinterpret and modernize the knowledge -make mexicans.
“This new scene is bursting with energy, explains Vanessa Bruno. Craftsmanship does not interest me as such, but I find their interpretation of the work of Mexican craftsmen with their contemporary outlook wonderful, whether on ceramics, large piñata-style papier-mâché plates or a young stylist who makes gaucho-style pants. I wanted it to be truly a dive into a modern Mexico”.
The Parisian space will also have a personalization workshop to provide additional service to the brand’s customers. At the end of this Mexican adventure, the flagship store will close its doors for a few weeks to install the brand’s new boutique concept. This will then be deployed in the 65 or so points of sale (stores and corners) of Vanessa Bruno.
