The European Researchers’ Night will take place on September 29, 2023 in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz and St. Pölten.

Vienna / Salzburg / Innsbruck / Lower Austria (OTS) Under the mottoes “exploREsearch” and “Life is a Science”, two Austrian initiatives will be launched on September 29, 2023 as part of this year’s European Researchers’ Night, with more than 300 scientists in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz and St. Pölten present what they are currently researching in an impressive and interactive way. The topic ranges from climate change and sustainability, to art, technology, history, biology and medicine, to citizen science.

Excitement and fun with many interactive stations and an entertaining research rally

The focus of the event is numerous scientific stations, where interesting impressions and insights from the multifaceted research ecosystem can be gained as well as scientists can get to know each other personally.

There will also be the opportunity to take part in a sophisticated research rally, which contributes to the entertainment and knowledge gain of young and old and where, with a lot of commitment, creativity and sophistication, you can get the chance to win attractive prizes.

From radar bobby cars and fluffy walkers, to killer algae and recycling heroes, to quantum and space research

Anyone who comes along and takes part will find out a lot of impressive news!

For example, you can find out how to convert energy from sunlight into green hydrogen and use yeast instead of crude oil for renewable plastics, what’s going on with photogrammetry, optical coherence tomography, radar tomography and the future of our power grid, like the beetles in the dead wood Wilderness, what habitats and dangers living rivers offer and how you can read the past in bones.

There will also be the opportunity to engage in artistic activities and try out new technologies at many hands-on stations. The spectrum ranges from learning mathematical and social skills through play and music to experimenting with radar, near field communication (NFC), virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR), eye tracking and IT security options.

It also explains what new trends there are through the use of artificial intelligence (AI), automation and 3D printing in production, how research is helping to combat dementia, cancer, ADHD and skin diseases and how we ourselves are Shaping a better world through active participation in the areas of waste separation, recycling, climate-friendly shopping, inclusion and observing nature.

Werner Gruber’s big physics show and a rich stage and school workshop program provide entertainment.

Our overall program is complemented by live acts from researchers, pub quizzes as well as a rich school workshop and pre-event program that will take place in advance, in the morning and in the evening.

A very special highlight is the inspiring physics show by Werner Gruber at the Vienna location, where there is usually not a dry eye in the room. It will be hot, it will be cold and some will take their feet to safety. A multi-sensory adventure without false bottoms – pure science in color and three-dimensional.

About the European Researchers’ Night

The European Researchers’ Night is funded by the European Union. It is a mega-event financed by Horizon Europe with the Marie Skłodowska-Curie measures, which takes place once a year in many European cities at the same time and aims to provide citizens of all ages with exciting insights into a wide range of areas of research and research to open up science.

The events taking place in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck under the motto “exploREsearch“take place, are realized cooperatively by the Children’s University, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the University of Salzburg, the University of Innsbruck, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), Science Communication and bee produced. The events that take place in Graz and St. Pölten under the motto “Life is a Science“ will be implemented jointly by ACIB – Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology and the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences.
