The mountains of Tohoku are approaching the peak of autumn leaves. The autumn leaves of Mt. Kurikoma, also known as the “carpet of the gods,” have finally reached their peak. Tomorrow, the 14th (Saturday), will be sunny and a perfect day for sightseeing, but on the 15th (Sunday) it will be cold and rainy, with the amount of rain expected to be heavier on the Pacific side. The weather and temperature can change dramatically, so please be careful when choosing clothing.
Tohoku mountains autumn leaves advance
The lowest temperature today, the 13th, was -0.5℃ in Yabukawa, Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, making it the second consecutive winter day, and the number of cold days has increased, and the autumn leaves in the mountains are changing color.

According to the Rural Tourism Division of Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, as of the 13th, the beautiful brocade-colored autumn leaves are spreading from near the mountaintop to around 1,400m above sea level, and the best time to see them is regarding 1 week to 10 days later than usual.
Other peak viewing spots in the Tohoku region include Mt. Iwaki, Hachimantai Aspite Line, Mt. Gassan, and Bandai Azuma Skyline.

This Saturday and Sunday, the weather and temperature in the Tohoku region will change dramatically.
On the 14th (Saturday), the weather was covered in a migratory high pressure system, resulting in a mild autumn sky. It’s going to be a great day for sightseeing.
The minimum temperature is expected to drop to around 10℃ in most places, at or below normal. Please stay warm and have a good night’s sleep tonight.
The maximum temperature will be around 23 degrees Celsius, which is regarding average or higher than usual, so it will be a pleasant and sunny day for anything.
There is a big difference in temperature between morning and evening and daytime, so wear clothes that are easy to put on and take off.
On the 15th (Sunday), a low-pressure system with cold air is expected to develop and move northward off the coast of Sanriku, causing heavy rain to fall as far as the Sanriku coast.
It has been raining since the morning in the southern Tohoku region, and the peak of the rain will be during the day.
Rain is expected to start falling in the northern Tohoku region around noon, with the peak rain expected at night.
Temperatures do not rise as high as in the southern Tohoku region, where rain starts early, and are around 15 degrees Celsius during the day. Even during the day, you may want to wear a jacket or light coat over your long sleeves.
At night, the wind will pick up and the air will become even colder.
