RE.KU.RA chairman Karl “Mike” Strobl was pleased that the room in Atelier 73 was filled to capacity. Mayor Manfred Nigl and deputy mayor Alois Binder and his wife also did not miss the opportunity to see author Barbara Neuwirth at her introduction The play “Eurydice Survives” gave insight into her perspective.

The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice has been told and processed many times over the centuries – but it was always Orpheus who was the focus of the ancient material. Barbara Neuwirth brings Eurydice into the focus of the story for the first time. It is not Orpheus who decides Eurydice’s fate, but rather Eurydice herself who decides her own future.

Barbara Neuwirth has now succeeded in uniquely reinterpreting and reinterpreting the material in the form of a radio play, which allows a different perspective on the myth and the stories associated with it. Set in a contemporary setting on board a container ship, Eurydice’s fate is renegotiated. An exciting new discovery.

The reading theater performance was brilliantly implemented by people from Unterretzbach, Mitterbach and Oberretzbach. The background music for the twelve scenes was provided by Franz Schaden.

During the reading, the attentiveness of the guests in Atelier 73 made it so quiet that even accidentally hitting a glass was irritating. The team of speakers and Barbara Neuwirth were all the more rewarded with strong and long-lasting applause at the end of the staged reading. The RE.KU.RA team once once more provided snacks and drinks so that the excellent performance might be celebrated for a long time in a homely atmosphere.

Background:

One day, when Aristaeus tried to rape the nymph Eurydice, she fled from him, but stepped on a snake and died from its bite. Her husband Orpheus didn’t want to accept this and followed her to Hades, the realm of the dead in Greek mythology. Because of the effect of his singing, the gods gave in to his request and Eurydice was allowed to follow him on the way back; but on one condition: he was not allowed to look back at his wife on the way to the upper world. When he did so, Eurydice sank back into the underworld.
