The young geek struggles as best he can to get out of the precarious situation of his neighborhood with his studies, but life in the neighborhood ends up catching up with him. He accidentally becomes the target of a drug dealer…
The film deals with important subjects, such as youth, university life, drugs and neighborhood crimes. And while these are tricky subjects, Dope manages to expose them in a very entertaining way.

Snowden (2016)
Stanfield’s talent for bringing supporting roles to life has often brought him attention from renowned directors. Oliver Stone is part of it, and the latter does not hesitate to integrate it into the cast of his film Snowden. By embodying the character of Patrick Haynes, our actor evolves alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Edward Snowden in the film). The latter, outraged by the way in which the NSA violates the Constitution, will divulge classified information concerning the listening systems. He will then be considered by some as a patriot, and by others as a traitor.

Selma (2014)
This movie is a must in this top 10 movies and series with Lakeith Stanfield. It’s even our personal favourite! Director Ava Duvernay’s masterpiece, Selma chronicles the true civil rights march of 1965 led by Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) from Selma to Montgomery. Lakeith Stanfield also appears in the cast, playing the role of Jimmie Lee Jackson. The latter draws its sources from a real character, whose murder by the police helped to stimulate King’s movement.
Ava Duvernay tells this story with such a poignant pen, giving the film the realistic allure. The heroes of the Marches from Selma to Montgomery are brought to life in an authentic and moving way, so that you feel like you are living the event with them.

Get Out (2017)
Make way for horror! In this horror/thriller film released in 2017, Lakeith Stanfield plays a relatively small, but unforgettable supporting role. Directed by Jordan Peele, Get Out follows the story of Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya), a young African-American photographer. Deciding to spend the weekend with the family of his Caucasian girlfriend, he will witness a paranormal event. Admittedly, his in-laws give him a warm welcome, but he begins to sense that something is wrong in the house.
The film had a huge cultural impact with its confusing storyline. The film skilfully mixes humor and horror, with shocking twists. It’s a movie that we never tire of watching in this top 10 movies and TV series with Lakeith Stanfield. The latter plays the role of Andre Hayworth, a missing man.

NWA : Straight Outta Compton (2015)
Musical biopics have become a trend in Hollywood in recent years, and Straight Outta Compton is no exception. The film traces the formation, rise and breakup of NWA (Niggaz With Attitudes), the groundbreaking American rap group. Members include rappers such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Eazy E.
In the film, Lakeith Stanfield plays an excellent supporting role as Snoop Dogg. He then joined the cast made up of the real rappers forming the emblematic group.

Short Term 12 (2013)
Also known by its title States of Grace, Short Term 12 is an independent film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Adaptation of the eponymous short film released in 2009, it stars Brie Larson as Grace Howard. She is a supervisor of Short Term 12, a home for troubled teens.
Anecdote: Grace Howard is the first leading role of Brie Larson’s film career.
As for Lakeith Stanfield, he embodies the secondary role of Marcus. He plays an older member of the household who finds it difficult to start his life once outside. He evolves alongside other actors like John Gallagher, Jr. (Mason), Kaitlyn Dever (Jayden Cole) or Rami Malek (Nate).

Uncut Gems (2019)
This 2019 thriller film is the work of director duo Benny and Joshua Safdie. Lakeith Stanfield portrays Demany, Kevin Garnett’s go-between, alongside Adam Sandler. And, for many, Uncut Gems recorded Sandler’s best performance yet.
The film stars Howard Ratner, a jewelry store owner within New York’s Diamond District. Fed up with the many crises in his life, he will tackle activities that do not conform to his profession. But all does not go as planned: his biggest and most invaluable merchandise is stolen.

At Knives Out (2019)

Drawing its sources from the detective novels of the 1900s, the film follows the private detective Benoit Blanc. Judas and the Black Messiah (2021)
This biographical and detective film released in 2021 earned him an Oscar nomination in the category best actor in a supporting role. Judas and the Black Messiah traces the life of Fred Hampton (played by Daniel Kaluuya), president of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party. A true leader and charismatic orator of the party in Illinois, he will be betrayed by William O’Neal (played by Lakeith Stanfield), a car thief turned FBI informant. This betrayal is the trigger for a series of altercations, resulting in the assassination of Fred Hampton by the FBI.
Upon its release, Judas and the Black Messiah earned six Oscar nominations at the 93rd Academy Awards. Among them, we note that of the best film and the best actor in a supporting role for Daniel Kaluuya. The latter himself won the Golden Globes 2021 for best actor in a supporting role as well as the Oscar for best actor in a supporting role.

Atlanta (2016 – 2022)
We end our top 10 movies and series with Lakeith Stanfield with Atlanta. Taking the top spot in the list is a comedy-drama television series created by Donald Glover. Lakeith Stanfield owes his Black Reel Award for Television thanks to Atlanta, with his role as Darius.
Atlanta stars Earnest “Earn” Marks (played by Donald Glover), a young music manager, and his rapper cousin Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles (Brian Tyree Henry). Alongside them are Darius (LaKeith Stanfield) and Vanessa “Van” Kiefer (Zazie Beetz), Earn’s girlfriend. Earn and Paper Boi will then tread the music scene of Atlanta, in order to break into this world of rap.
