We have always been told that snacking is not good for the line, nor for the health. And yet, a recent study suggests the opposite.

It’s not uncommon to have a bit of a snack around 4 p.m. Yet snacking is not considered a good idea. In any case, that’s what we thought, until this study by scientists from Massachusetts, King’s College London, Stanford and Harvard.

The health benefits of snacking

According to this study, the frequency of snacks and their calorie content would have no impact on fat or sugar in the blood. They point out that the foods we tend to snack on have very little connection with the quality of our overall diet.

Moreover, the fact of snacking very often corresponds to an instinctive diet: if we eat chocolate, it is because we lack magnesium, for example. Or we snack simply because we don’t eat enough during meals.

On the other hand, the study specifies that by snacking after 9 p.m., there are more peaks in blood sugar and a higher level of sugar and fat in the blood.

Regarding the snacks to be preferred: Nuts, fruits or yogurts as well as cheese.

It is therefore a question of trying to bring healthy and nutritious elements to our body during snacking, rather than banishing this habit completely.
