No matter how many fans we have been, no matter how much we have enjoyed a character, or no matter how much we have laughed at a gag, on many occasions that series that we liked so much is no longer so idealized in a new current viewing.
There is no better judge than time to know if a series has aged well. A few months ago they returned to our lives ‘The Golden Girls’, since the series was being re-released on Disney +. Released in 1985, the adventures of Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sofia in Miami often seemed like current plots, with solutions or very open views for that decade. However, later on several series have been coming that despite being very accepted by the audience, there are details that today are squeaking, and that contain plots or parts of their scripts have aged quite badly.
‘Sex and the City’ did a lot of good in the series and above all in breaking the mold in showing women in fiction in a way that had not been done before. That does not mean that points are taken once morest Carrie Bradshaw and company.
Another clear example is in the successful series ‘The Big Bang Theory’. The series lasted for twelve -excessive- seasons. For many jokes that led to the clash of personalities of Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter (in addition to those of Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali for his part), the lines dedicated to the female characters always left much to be desired. Another series that grew old too quickly was ‘How I Met Your Mother’. A great premise but a development that has been very outdated. A problem that the new version, ‘How I met your father’intends to solve.
And also, yes, time has also taken its toll on ‘Friends’. It will be a milestone on television and it made the international public laugh, true, no one doubts it. For sample is the special that fans accept with open arms. However, as much as it is hard for us to recognize, even if we are aware, the characters were not perfect, and many of their behaviors will not be accepted 18 years following the end of the series.
We will not mention here the animated series, which also leave much to be desired in today’s eyes and have already been widely commented on several times. We will focus on some very popular titles, successes since their premiere, that made us laugh and enjoy but whose plot has not gone so well today: old jokes, humor that is too basic, or personalities that are too toxic and with zero romanticism.
Let’s review some examples. Do you remember any other series with the same problem?
