ChiRaku is eight feet long and four feet tall when spread out. A look that scares anyone. Strong legs. Sharp beak. These are the attributes of Harpy Eagle, the rarest hawk in the world. The Amazon rainforest is one of the main habitats of harpy hawks.
Because they are so rare, they are often impossible to find. Because half of South America is oceanic rainforest. Spread across eight countries. There are a few photographers in Brazil who are very adventurous traveling through the forest.
The pictures of the mother hawk sitting with her baby were taken by Leson Marques. Their egg-laying method is different from other birds. A hawk lays only one egg. It takes three months to hatch. It takes eight to ten months for them to acquire the ability to fly. But now it takes up to 14 months.
Climate change is believed to be behind this. More research is going on in this regard. Nests are made in trees over 60 feet tall. The harpy hawk did not show any panic following seeing the picture being taken. Charles Mun, head of the research organization South Brazil Wild, said that two nests were found this time.
