In Córdoba, Argentina, the Japanese manufacturer installs accessories on thirteen versions of the Nissan Frontier (called Nissan Navara in some markets), both for the local market and for the three countries to which the pickup is exported: Brazil, Chile and Colombia
During fiscal year 2022, ending in March 2023, more than 11,000 units were customized
South America – Nissan’s manufacturing project in South America includes two production plants: the Resende Industrial Complex, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, and the Santa Isabel de Córdoba Factory, in Argentina. It is in this last industrial unit that the Japanese manufacturer produces the Nissan Frontier (Nissan Navara in some markets) and customizes each one for its customers, in its own way. Vehicle Processing Center (also known as “Accessory Assembly Center”). Accessories are installed there, such as a bed protector, load divider, decorative trim, rubber mat and door trim, as well as different types of stickers, totaling thirteen versions of the pickup designed to do more. By the end of fiscal year 2022 (in March 2023), more than 11,000 units had been customized.
How are accessories chosen?
There are two ways to choose accessories. In the first, the regional design team requests a version of the pickup that already includes accessories from its conception and these are developed and produced at the Córdoba Factory. This is the case with the Pro4x, Attack and X-Gear versions of the Frontier.
In the second alternative, Nissan offers its subsidiaries the possibility of printing the personality of each market on vehicles. For example, Nissan Chile might purchase the pickup truck and choose the accessories it wants to install, from a wide variety of options. In this case, following obtaining all approvals in quality tests when it leaves the production line, the vehicle passes through the Vehicle Processing Center and only then be dispatched to the local or international market.
Commitment to regional economies
Nissan South America contributes to regional economies and partnerships formed with local suppliers are part of this strategy. It takes between eight and ten months of prior work to be able to count on the accessory being ready and certified as original for the start of production.
Since the start of factory operations, the number of accessories produced locally has gradually increased: for example, by the end of 2021, there were seven local references and, in March 2023, there were already ten references produced in Argentina, including the protector , rubber mat and decorative frieze.
Nissan has already invested more than 730 million dollars in its manufacturing project in Argentina to continue expanding its presence in South America, as a manufacturer and exporter. By starting supply to Chile and Colombia last year, the Santa Isabel Factory became an export center for pickup trucks that comply with the Euro 6 standard for Latin America. The Nissan Frontier pickup truck offers robustness, comfort, safety and technology to continue doing more, and can be customized in any way. Vehicle Processing Center.
