From the North to the South of the country, we trek through our terroirs for a hell of a dose of beauty. What do we begin with ?
The Zwin, in West Flanders
We head to the Coast, on the Dutch border, to get lost in the meanders of the Zwin. A favorite hideout for fans of migratory bird watching, it’s with your feet in the water, to the rhythm of the tides, that you can observe ultra-rich and diverse fauna.
This is because the nature reserve which is home to storks, nightingales and other species of all kinds changes completely with the seasons. In winter, many waterfowl winter in the park. There we find the whistling duck or the barnacle goose. When the good weather returns, the storks return to prepare their nests, at the height of summer, the nightingales sing and then once autumn arrives, the migration can be observed in all its splendor, in a splendid flora. So grab your binoculars and boots, we’ll go there whatever the weather.
From Liereman, to Antwerp
In this area which extends over more than 100 hectares of woods, pastures and heaths, you can meet Shetland ponies, Konik horses, sheep and even Scottish Galloway cows wandering between the dunes and marshes.
This is because Liereman Park is one of the oldest nature reserves in Belgium. Preserving the rich biotopes of the Campine, you can explore the park via 8 marked hiking trails (accessible to all and all levels) or on two wheels following two loops crossing the park. A place with a magical atmosphere that will convince young and old alike.
The Haute-Sûre Forêt Anlier natural park, in Luxembourg
Between river and forest, we delve into the Luxembourg Haute-Sûre natural park for a deep green experience and an intense connection to nature. In this superb setting and between its valleys and clearings, we follow the Haute-Sûre river which winds through the Ardennes plateau, digging into the relief and offering sublime views with unique panoramas!
But to discover the place, you take your time. It has no less than 89 hiking trails and 18 mountain bike trails as well as numerous possibilities for disconnected or almost disconnected accommodation available to you. We therefore plan our visit over several days and slow down the pace to fully enjoy it.
The Viroin-Hermeton natural park, in Namur
Recognized by the Walloon Region in 1998, the Viroin-Hermeton natural park underwent several major changes before reaching its current form. With an area of 48,000 hectares, it covers four natural zones which follow one another on a North-South axis, each offering its own particularities.
Thus, the Viroin-Hermeton natural park crosses the Condroz, the Fagne, the Calestienne and the Ardenne, which gives it a unique natural wealth in Belgium! It is also a Natura 200 protected natural site that can be explored with no less than 724 km of marked routes. The opportunity also to go see the Fondry des Chiens, a true rocky wonder, with an almost supernatural appearance.
The Hautes-Fagnes, in Liège
It’s difficult to imagine a selection of our most beautiful parks and nature reserves without including our splendid fagnes! 15,700 hectares of unspoiled nature, peat bogs and heather moors in which you can ski once winter comes or which you can explore when the weather returns, through trails and duckboards.
A sublime place with unspoiled wild nature, we like to get lost in its reliefs for a walk (or several). For those wishing to learn more regarding this national heritage, go to the Maison du parc, at the Signal de Botrange (highest point in Belgium). From here, many signposted walks begin, offering a taste of what the Fagnes have to offer.
