First solo album by Michael McDonald, published in 1982. It marvelously mixes pop, rock, funk and blue-eyed soul. Originally from Saint-Louis, Missouri, his musical career took off in Los Angeles in the early 1970s.
After playing in local groups like Mike and the Majestics and Jerry Jay and the Sheratons, Michael McDonald joined the Steely Dan group as a backing vocalist, then was recruited in 1975 by the Doobie Brothers as a temporary replacement. We know the following: not happy to have been the most productive member of the Doobie Brothers, and to have collaborated with a host of artists such as Aretha Franklin, Kim Carnes or Patti LaBelle, Michael McDonald began a solo career and released his first album in 1982. Powered by the single ”I Keep Forgettin’”son premier album ”If That’s What It Takes” released in August 1982, and the bar was set very high.
