Discover the Most Expensive Coffee in Vienna at Fenster Café: Is it Worth the Price?

Since 2011, Viennese café culture has been part of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage. The city is therefore known and recognized internationally for its particularly tasty coffees. We can no longer count the number of cafes where it is good to stop and quietly sip your coffee, because there, it is a real institution elevated even for certain purists to the rank of good manners.

But in addition to the classic cafés, if you are on vacation near Vienna, one address in particular is getting a lot of attention at the moment: the Fenster Café. This address, which is well established on the street, is located in the district of the old university. The place is just a simple counter open to the street, where you order takeaway drinks. And yet, despite the simplicity of the place, there is one of the most expensive cafes in Europe.

In video, here is the best way to drink your coffee:

Coffees at all prices

When reading the menu, we see an espresso sold for €2.50, a latte for €4.50, or even a cappuccino for €4. You only need to continue reading the hot drinks menu to understand that a rather special drink is also served there: a coffee which costs no less than €11. Touted as one of the 50 best coffees in the world, this coffee does not present itself in a classic way, since the cup has in fact been replaced by another container, original to say the least: an ice cream cone coated in chocolate. For those who are already worried regarding seeing their ice cream cone melting under their fingers, rest assured: the cone is frozen, which does not give the ice cream time to melt.

A coffee worth gold

An unusual visual, inevitably Instagrammable, which therefore justifies such a price. But is it really good? Because obviously at such a price, everyone wonders if this coffee is really worth it or if it’s just a big scam. However, the answer is almost unanimous, according to the TripAdvisor comments: it is definitely one of the best cafes in the city. So if the café in question seems to please, you guessed it, it is now one of the city’s tourist traps. As proof, the price of coffee has exploded in just a few years. Some Internet users are outraged, saying that not even 5 years ago, this same coffee sold for only €5.5. An era that seems to be well and truly past since the address is now always full: to obtain this precious liquid gold, you will have to show a lot of patience, because some days the queue seems endless.

The address? Fenster Café, Griechengasse 10, 1010 Vienna, Austria.
