From different eras and different styles, there are many castles in Wallonia, all witnesses of history – at least from the point of view of the dominant class. There are regarding 1,500 in the south of Belgium. Some fortifications were built to defend a territory, along a road or river, on top of a rock. Others were erected as residences. Among the most impregnable, here are three.
Reinhardstein Castle
In Ovifat, this castle dominates the Warche valley. This medieval fort was rebuilt and restored by a historian. Storytelling tours by candlelight are organized on Thursday evenings in summer and, during the day, you can taste the soup of Les Manants (by reservation).
