Volkswagen’s range of electric cars is red hot and does not stop presenting news. If just a few weeks ago we discovered the new Volkswagen ID.7 as a direct response to the Tesla Model S, today the launch of an ID.7 GTX variant that aims to show us the sportier side of this electric saloon. Following the steps of ID.4 and ID.5, this ID.7 GTX aspires to become the sportiest and most powerful electric of the brand.
The first thing to keep in mind is that the ID.7, at least in its initial launch, was only presented together with two versions called Pro and Pro S, both sharing the same propulsion scheme with a 286 hp electric motor. and 550 Nm driving the rear wheels. The differences were focused on the battery, finding a capacity of 77 kWh in the Pro version and 85 kWh in the Pro S version. The autonomy of these versions is 615 and 700 km respectively.
The new GTX version will start from this technical approach to up the ante in performance and benefits. To achieve this, the first thing Volkswagen will do is add a second electric motor in charge exclusively of the front wheels, being able to raise the power up to a figure in the environment of 350 CV. The battery, for its part, seems to remain intact, relying on the one with the highest capacity (85 kWh), but reducing its autonomy given the greater demand on performance that this GTX version will require.
From the aesthetic point of view, as this first official image published by Volkswagen as a mosaic already suggests, the ID.7 GTX will display a sportier and more differentiated image. This will result in the use of darkened LED lights, the replacement of chrome exteriors with glossy black trim, specific wheels and the use of new bumpers with a more aggressive aesthetic.
The presentation of the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX is scheduled for the end of summerso its arrival on the markets will take place at the end of the year or the beginning of 2024.
