The latest exhibition at Espace Gibert is still visible until November 17. The cultural association has scheduled two painters, one from Toulouse, the other from Narbonne.
The new exhibition at Espace Gibert showcases two distinct talents with very particular aesthetics. The artistic choices of the cultural association team always focus on local artists, generally from Aude or the Occitanie region.
Jean-Pierre Gilly is a native of Toulouse who has always been passionate regarding painting, with an affinity for artists such as Pieter de Hooch, Matisse, Scully, Barnett Newman… and many others: “I made the choice to devote myself to painting once my university career was over. I then worked for three years, from 2006 to 2009, under the authority of the painter Jeremy Annett in order to acquire basic pictorial techniques. Subsequently, I gradually embarked on an artistic approach which led me to exhibit in different places in the Great South, but also in Paris and Brussels.“.
In resonance with reality
His work, very refined, is resolutely abstract: “I favor simple geometric shapes. They do not seek to tell a story or an anecdote but essentially address the sensitivity and imagination of the “viewer”, like a world in itself entering into resonance with the real world, in order to create an emotion.“. Paintings that the painter only presents in a canvas format: the square chosen on 60 or 100 centimeters.
In search of emotion
The other artist to share the walls of the associative gallery is Guy Perottet. Born in Meknes, Morocco, he is today on Narbonne territory. Very early attracted to drawing and painting, he has continued to work over the last few decades: “SOn the advice of Fernand Gautier, I moved towards abstract art, without forgetting figurative art. In particular, I worked in series on various themes. Today, I move from one to the other in search of emotion.”
Awarded for his works, Guy Perottet exhibits extensively in local and further afield galleries. At Gibert, he chose to present an exhibition entitled “The Life of Sébastien”, where the art of charcoal is particularly highlighted.
Exhibition visible with free admission until November 17 during opening hours of Espace Gibert (24, boulevard Dormoy, city center): Tuesday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
