When thinking of Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, words like maestro and leader come to mind.
Fernandes just can’t stop running and has enjoyed the trust of all the club’s executives since his arrival in January 2020.
Under Erik Ten Hag in 2022/23, Bruno has made 59 appearances, the most of any player in Europe’s top five leagues.
So it’s no surprise that the Portuguese ended up at the top of United’s distance chart in the last Premier League season.
Transfer stories: Gabriel Heinze
That’s almost 100km longer than our second longest distance, Marcus Rashford’s 307.2km.
Of course, the number of league appearances plays a role in these final totals, but Bruno also tops United’s list for the most distance covered in a single game.
Such performances and stamina have contributed to Bruno’s overall distance for the 2022/23 Premier League season, which is the sixth highest in the division.
Fernandes is only beaten by Timothy Castagne (Leicester), Alex Iwobi (Everton), Declan Rice (West Ham), Pascal Gross (Brighton) and James Ward-Prowse (Southampton), the latter having covered 433.4 km during of the campaign, despite the relegation of his team.
Our number 8 has also completed the second most sprints (589) in the Premier League for United this season, behind Rashford (650).
As the stats show, it’s not just that Bruno moves, it’s that he does it with great intensity.
Fernandes’ exceptional stamina – eight league goals and eight assists – was a big part of our third-place finish last season, and he and the Reds side will look to go even further in 2023/24.
