Al-Marsad Newspaper: Consultant cardiologist, Dr. Munawar Al-Enezi, revealed how to know the effect of pressure on the kidneys, and the best way to protect them.
Al-Enezi said, during a tweet that he posted on his Twitter account: The main function of the kidneys in the body is to filter excess fluids and waste from the blood, and this process requires the presence of healthy blood vessels, adding: Uncontrolled chronic high blood pressure can negatively affect the nature of blood vessels. Existing in the kidneys, and having diabetes with high blood pressure increases the damage.
On how to discover the effect of pressure on the kidneys, he explained: The only way is to analyze kidney function, “the normal urea level is (1.8 to 7.1) mmol, and the normal creatinine level for men is 65 to 119, and for women it is 52 to 92, and this analysis is done at least annually.”
He pointed out: For those who have had an effect on the kidneys from pressure or for some other reason (with the presence of pressure), blood tests are conducted every 6 months, and sometimes it requires “an ultrasound of the kidneys, and its usefulness is to estimate the size of the kidneys and its components and whether there is damage to its internal (functional) parts.”
And he continued: Doing a blood analysis called (estimated filtration rate), which is a more accurate analysis than traditional kidney function tests, and the estimated normal e-GFR filtration rate is higher than 90 between (60-89) a slight decrease in functions and between (30-59) a moderate decrease in functions. And between (15-29) a severe decline in jobs.
And he added: To protect the kidneys from pressure, it is through controlling pressure permanently, following a healthy diet low in salt, persevering in physical activity and sports, controlling weight and treating diabetes, if any.
And he continued: For those who have the beginning of an effect on the kidneys, they must follow up periodically with the nephrologist, and follow a diet that suits the current function of the kidneys, and it is desirable that pressure medications include one of the following two categories; Medicines (Angiotensin Reductase) such as Enalapril, Perindopril, Captopril, and Medicines (Angiotensin Receptor Antagonists) such as Valsartan, Losartan, Irbesartan, Candesartan.
