IV-GS Neumayer: House of Industry Stage of important historical events – large crowds on tours through the Wilhelminian style house
Vienna (OTS) – Under the motto “monument [er:sie:wir] live | 100 Years of the Monument Protection Act”, the Federal Monuments Office once once more invites you to explore hundreds of historical buildings and monuments in Austria on “Monument Day”. Today, September 24, 2022, the Industrial Association (IV) will also open the doors of the House of Industry on Schwarzenbergplatz and invite you to explore the historic building and its history on guided tours.
“Our house on Schwarzenbergplatz looks back on more than 110 years of eventful history and was the stage for major historical events such as the final negotiation of the State Treaty. It was in the past and is still a self-confident expression of the important role that industry plays in prosperity and quality of life in Austria. We are pleased to open the doors to those interested on Monument Day and to be able to provide insights into the many stories of this house,” says Christoph Neumayer, General Secretary of the IV.
The headquarters of the industrial association in the heart of Vienna was already established as the headquarters of predecessor industrial organizations and is closely linked to the early history of the Second Republic. After the Second World War – from 1945 to 1955 – it served as the headquarters of the Allied Council in Austria. In 1955 the Austrian State Treaty was negotiated here.
To architecture
The Haus der Industrie, opened in 1911 by Emperor Franz Josef, is one of the last large historicist buildings in Vienna. The four-story office palace was planned by the Viennese architect Karl König. With the magnificent interior design in the large representative rooms, the Haus der Industrie is one of the most beautiful conference venues in Vienna from the time before the First World War. Since its construction, the building has served as an office space and at the same time as a negotiation, conference and event location.
On Monument Day, visitors have the exclusive opportunity to directly experience this history and the architecture of the unique building. There was great interest and the three tours for a total of fifty participants starting at 10 a.m. were quickly booked out in advance – there is a long waiting list. The tours are conducted by a proven expert on the history of Vienna, Mag. Paul Rachler, archivist of the Industrial Association.
