The 2023 literary season is in full swing. We are devoting a series of articles over the next few weeks to the highlights of this round.

It was about twenty years ago. An editor, with a vibrant voice, had called me on the phone: “The literary season? A real carnage! For the books which do not find their public, it is bloody. He said this in such a dramatic tone that I had a very clear vision of gutted books lying in a pool of hemoglobin… To understand, you have to look back to the book market of the 2000s and early 2010s. August and October of those years, the number of books published exceeded 650, 700 even in 2010. Such a mass of publications in such a short period? It was inevitable: barely born, a maddening number of books fell to dust, in just a few weeks.
