Rue à Degrés, in Mons, is located in the city center and connects rue de la Poterie and rue de la Chaussée (the pedestrian area). A small street little known to tourists, Rue à Degrés has already been the subject of an astonishing decoration when a huge red balloon was placed between the narrow walls of the pedestrian road. It was then the RedBall Mons project as part of Mons 2015.

This week, the people of Monts discovered a whole new style of decoration in this little street: the paving stones and stairs have been repainted blue! An approach that has already caused a stir among the population… While some have already renamed it “Smurf Street”, others see it as the representation of a stream!

But the reality is quite different: “This is the first step in a new fresco which will soon see the light of day on this street. As part of the urban arts festival and for the “Art Habite la Ville” project, this type of artistic work aims to enrich our urban environment while attracting a large number of visitors, which promises to bring positive impact for our city,” explains the City of Mons. We will therefore have to wait a little longer before seeing the final result!
