Once once more, Claude and Philippe, members of the Passion Jardin au naturel association, were offered a visit last Sunday to their maple garden located on the Velay plateau in Haute-Loire. The flowering of the hydrangeas, which got off to a good start at an altitude of 1,140 m, enabled the participants to discover the different families of hydrangeas among the 100 varieties present in the garden. Alongside the classic macrophylla, hydrangeas with large round heads, we were able to appreciate the flat-headed hydrangeas macrophylla lacecaps, the hydrangeas serrata or mountain hydrangeas particularly resistant to cold, the hydrangeas paniculata with their large conical inflorescences, the arborescent hydrangeas or Virginia hydrangeas with in particular the many variations of Annabelle, climbing hydrangeas petiolaris, hydrangeas quercyfolias with leaves similar to large oak leaves, hydrangeas aspera with rough and hairy green leaves similar to velvet, hydrangeas involucrata.
A tour, guide and refreshments
Beyond the hydrangeas, the gardeners in Langon were also able to appreciate the flowering of the roses, both ascending roses and late roses, as well as the diversity of hostas and heuchera whose foliage enriches the different beds with their rich color palette: yellow bright to dark brown through the different shades of green. The guided tour enabled the visitors present to better understand the conditions and cultivation practices implemented in the garden, particularly for the hydrangeas, and to appreciate both the importance of the work that the garden represents and the result up to the commitment and passion of the hosts.
Throughout the followingnoon, nearly 75 people came to visit the garden and were able to take part in one of the three guided tours organized successively in view of the crowds and to satisfy the curiosity of latecomers. Many visiting photographers were also able to take pictures of the garden and enjoy the beauty of the flowering plants and the beds, inspired by the art of English gardens by Gertrude Jekyll.
At the end of the visit, refreshments and homemade pastries were offered to visitors in order to pleasantly continue the exchanges. Finally, everyone was able to leave with a culture guide to try to come close to the hosts of the day.
