The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) published its recent list Best Tourism Villagesfocused on the best towns in the world that you could visit in 2024. First place went to Sela, in Jordan, known as ‘little Petra’. They are followed by two from South America, which are the best of all Latin America also. Did you know that Pozuzo is an Austro-German colony in Peru?
Pozuzo is one of the best towns in South America and the world. This place is located 360 kilometers from Cerro de Pasco and 84 kilometers from Oxapampa. It was founded in 1859 and is the first colony of its kind, four years after the Peruvian government ceded the land to settlers from Austria. It is a city built by Austrian and German immigrants: that explains the type of architecture it has and makes it stand out to all its visitors.

To get to Pozuzo from Lima, you can take an 8-hour bus trip to Oxapampa. You must go to the Pampón Verde terminal to take a bus that will take you to Pozuzo (approximately 2 hours away). Another option is to take a flight from Lima to Jaujathe closest airport, and from there go to Oxapampa by bus to reach Pozuzo.
