From April 14 to 22, more than 62,000 festival-goers strolled through the wine-growing town, organizers said on Sunday, who speak of a “memorable and “more than successful” anniversary edition. In total, 120 concerts, including 35 paying , were on the menu and some 13,700 tickets were sold.
The festival has renewed a recipe that works, namely to offer quality musical moments in a festive atmosphere, mixing renowned artists and discoveries. This year, the marquee had a new “state-of-the-art” immersive sound system, used for the first time by a festival in Switzerland.
With Barbara Hendricks and Erik Truffaz
Highlight of the festival, Sona Jobarteh, prodigy of the kora, performed in front of a packed tent, sharing the musical heritage of West African griots. The marquee saw trumpet player Erik Truffaz, Roni Kaspi, young drummer from Avishai Cohen’s trio, Barbara Hendricks and Mulatu Astatke, 79, the father of ethio-jazz.
With his trio, the Bienne guitarist Roman Nowka took over and rearranged the songs of Mani Matter, with Stephan Eicher. Also on the menu are New York singer Michael Mayo, rapper Summer Pearl, cellist Dom La Nena, Pascal Auberson and his son César Decker and guitarist Derek Gripper.
Next edition scheduled from April 5 to 13, 2024
After a financially difficult year 2022 due to the weather, the organizers say they are “serene” for 2023, even if it is still “too early” to draw conclusions on the state of the accounts. “The results will certainly allow the festival to catch its breath following the pandemic,” they write. The next edition will be held from April 5 to 13, 2024.
