The mighty Yellow River has been flowing for eternity, forming a magnificent and winding “Ji” bend on the territory of China. Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, is a piece of fertile land embraced by the arms of the Yellow River. Thousands of years of civilization have left behind rich historical and cultural resources here.
The Yuncheng Museum, established in 2013, has an overall shape like an old tree root rooted in the Loess Plateau. Here, you can have a glimpse of the splendid starlight of ancient Chinese civilization and touch the endless Chinese cultural context.
On May 16, 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the Yuncheng Museum to learn more regarding the origins of mankind and the early historical development of Chinese civilization in Yuncheng.
The fossil of “Auropithecus of the Century” discovered in Yuanqu County is regarding 45 million years old. Many characteristics of higher primates can be seen, which is of great significance to the study of the origin of human beings.
The Xihoudu site in Ruicheng County on the bank of the Yellow River is one of the oldest Paleolithic sites in my country. The painted pottery basins unearthed at the Dongzhuang site are still brightly colored following sleeping underground for thousands of years, reflecting the superb pottery craftsmanship.
Nowadays, more and more tourists and students who love traditional Chinese culture come to the museum to commune with the cultural relics in the collection and explore the origin of civilization. With the support of modern technological means such as virtual reality and 3D photos, cultural relics “walk” out of the display cabinets and into daily life scenes, allowing more people to appreciate the endless civilization of the Chinese nation.
Culture has roots and civilization has origins. Where do we come from? Where to go? Only by tracing the deepest history can we open up the longest future. A nation and a country must know who they are, where they come from, and where they want to go. Once they understand and think correctly, they must move forward unswervingly towards their goals.
Following in the footsteps of the General Secretary, we walked into the Yuncheng Museum and appreciated the light of the endless civilization of the Chinese nation.
