- NASA JPL – Saturn’s rings seen from the side of the moon Dione, photographed by the Cassini spacecraft
This was introduced by sorae in the article on September 24, 2021.Saturn and its satellite Dione“is. This image was taken by the Saturn probe Cassini.
In the center of the image, you can see Saturn’s rings, which look like a thin horizontal band, and the white, ball-like moon Dione slightly above them. Because Cassini’s position was only 1/3 degree off from the plane of the rings, it appears that the image was taken almost directly sideways to Saturn’s rings.
Although Saturn’s rings appear narrow in images, they are actually wide.A majestic shadow in the northern hemisphereis dropping. What you can see through the gap in the shadow are the bluish clouds of the northern hemisphere in winter. It contrasts beautifully with the band of warm-colored clouds near the equator and in the southern hemisphere, and is reminiscent of a tricolor flag painted in blue, yellow, and orange.
