This Monday, September 16 at noon, 1000 Moules-frites were served in the Rihour village the day after the Grande Braderie de Lille. A solidarity meal that benefited the members of 8 Lille associations (The Red Cross, the Restos du Coeur, Abej, etc.). This operation was possible thanks to the collection of unsold food items throughout the perimeter of the flea market: mussels, desserts, fruit, bread. The Brasserie La Chicorée, at the origin of this initiative, joined forces with the Linkee association to carry out this project.
A popular event for all
A solidarity and anti-waste meal the day after the Grande Braderie is a first in its history, which dates back to the Middle Ages. Arnaud Meniant, owner of La Chicorée, has committed to cooking the 1,000 plates of this unusual lunch. He explains why it is important to him: “There are times of the year when we have to show that we are a popular institution. What is popular is also welcoming everyone. We can come all year round to eat seafood platters, but there are also times when we have to welcome people who are unable to come to the restaurant.”
1 ton of mussels was expected for this meal. Linkee, an organization that offers solidarity logistics solutions to food waste, volunteered on Sunday to collect the food. 150 volunteers mobilized. These volunteers are often beneficiaries, as Brice Benazzouz, head of Linkee, tells us: “Students in need collect the food on Sunday and come eat it on Monday lunchtime or pick it up on Monday evening.” Indeed, all the food collected on Sunday was not only served on Monday lunchtime, but could be distributed to students as usual on Monday evening of the Braderie at the Bazaar St-So.
Lille City Hall congratulates this collaboration. Julien Pilette, municipal councilor, emphasizes “this self-financing on the part of everyone.”
