A DJ from San Diego, who has visited the 193 countries recognized by the UN, decided to found his own country in the middle of the Californian desert.
“I saw incredible places that many people have not had the chance to discover. What awaited me next was to create a country of my own,” said Randy “R Dub” Williams, in an interview with Fox 5 television channel.
Baptized on Slowjamastanthis country, which is obviously not approved by the United Nations, has its own laws, several of which are somewhat eccentric.
For example, it is forbidden to wear “Crocs” type shoes, to eat your Ficello without fraying it and to listen to “mumble rap.”
When driving, you cannot go into the left lane, unless it is to overtake a car.
Randy Williams, who calls himself the “sultan” of his nation, even designed his own passport which he says has been stamped by 16 other countries. The Slowjastan founder also claims that 5,000 people have registered to become citizens.
The latter founded his country on 4.5 hectares of land which he bought in 2021. He even invented a national anthem entitled “Slowjamastan (I think It’s Gonna Be an Awesome Place)”, or in French: “Slowjamastan (I think it will be a great place.)
The fictional country has its own currency, the Double, in reference to the Russian ruble.
As for the political regime in place, Randy Williams considers that it is a dictatorship which sometimes becomes a democracy.
“Some days we are a republic, but others we have a dictatorship,” he proclaims. “I am a great leader who dictates the laws, but sometimes we let the community have their say on issues that are important to Slowjamastanis.”
The country has no infrastructure, but its leader plans to build solar panels, an armadillo farm and a Mongolian BBQ restaurant.
Slowjamastan is not the only micronation recognized by any other country in the world. There are regarding 70 of them on the planet, including a few in Canada.
