By now, the number of Ordinals Inscriptions created on the Bitcoin blockchain has exceeded 13 million, and the attention of an enthusiastic group of collectors is focused on the block metadata referred to as “rare satos” or “sattributes”. Such special metadata can be if a sat is the first satoshi of the given block or if it participated in a historic transaction (e.g. the first BTC transaction). Thanks to this new fashion, not only the artistic content, but also the attributes can affect the value of Bitcoin NFTs. Recently, collectors are paying more attention to the discovery of rare satos. In parallel with the popularity of Ordinal Inscription, users are increasingly actively dealing with Bitcoin’s smallest divisible unit, the satos. Satoshi is named following the legendary creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, and is the smallest unit of bitcoin that is kept in the ledger. The uniqueness of rare satosiks due to their order Recently, collectors have placed a higher value on certain satosiks, whether due to their rarity or their involvement in famous BTC historical events. Enthusiasts are now on the hunt for these luxury satoshis and excitedly watching their owners, who have no idea what treasure they are sitting on. Social media also picked up on the topic, many Twitter users threw themselves at the rare pieces or started their own research. Old School Crypto wrote a detailed article regarding the phenomenon, which points out a couple of important elements. For example, there are nearly seven million special satos that are the first satos of a block, but there are only 3,400 that are the satos of the first block following changing the mining difficulty level. Not to mention the 32 rare satos, which are the first satos following the halving events. In their cross section, there are 5 rare sats that both represent the first satosia of the first block following a halving and a mining difficulty increase, and of course 1 sat above all of them: the first of the Genesis block, which represents the very first BTC. The satos used in historical BTC transactions can also be worth more. The previously mentioned BTC historical satos include, for example, those mined in the first 1000 blocks, or the famous coins used in the bitcoin pizza story that made Hungarian crypto hearts beat twice, and are now referred to only as Pizza Satok in the technical language. The article also mentions that the Ord.io marketplace allows users to discover and filter these using the “satributes” filter. There are nine different types of attributes on the Ord.io website, but these may easily be expanded in the future. By the way, it is not new that a numismatic value is assigned to each BTC coin. There have been examples of BTC exceeding its nominal value in the past: Satoshi’s first transaction with Hal Finney has such a distinguished value, or physical bitcoin coins (e.g. the Casascius collection). Moreover, already in 2011, there was a lively discussion on the bitcointalk.org forum that someone would buy one of the coins involved in the BTC Pizza transaction for 50% more.
