Riding on the monster hit of the TV series Goblinshot in Quebec City in 2016, a Korean tour operator will organize four charter flights (charter) linking Seoul directly to Quebec this fall, to allow a thousand South Korean tourists to discover the national capital.
The announcement will be made Monday followingnoon, at the Quebec airport, in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, the mayor of Quebec and senior officials of the airport of Quebec and Destination Quebec City (formerly Office de tourisme of Quebec).
Korean tour operator Hanjin Travel has chartered four Korean Air flights that will be used exclusively by Korean tourists departing from Seoul and then returning from Quebec City. The four trips will be concentrated over a period of regarding a month this fall, learned The newspaper.
At least three nights
It should be noted from the outset that it will be impossible for people from Quebec to take these flights to go to South Korea, since these are charter flights departing from Seoul. This is also why we cannot technically speak of an “air link” in good and due form.
Korean tourists will take a Boeing 777-300ER which has a capacity of 260 passengers. The agreement, which will be unveiled on Monday, provides that each of the four groups will spend at least three nights in hotels in Quebec.
Economical consequences
This operation is expected to have a minimum direct economic impact of $1 million, and it is rumored that the Korean tour operator has good hopes of fully filling its four flights.
Is this an isolated initiative by the tour operator or a way to test the Quebec market? Our interlocutors did not want to advance on this question. That said, we know that the discussions between the Korean tour operator and those responsible for the tourism file in Quebec have been going on for many years.
Since its filming in 2016 in Quebec, the television series Goblin created a real craze for the national capital among Koreans. Until now, however, they had to take flights such as Seoul–New York before being able to reach Quebec.
In a report published at the end of 2019, just before the pandemic, The newspaper detailed the effects of this series on the appeal of Québec to this clientele. The series has also aroused vocations among other Asian filmmakers, because a third of the 21 foreign shoots in Quebec came from Asia in 2019.
According to data from 2019, the 16 episodes of Goblinwhich aired in 2017, have been viewed more than 245 million times.
