Welcome to the Maggia Valley, to the only artisanal cultivation laboratory for edible mushrooms in Ticino. Two young scientists, now entrepreneurs, created the company Micocene two years ago, which cultivates, sells and studies mushrooms. The company takes care of their production from the spores – the reproductive cells of the fungus – to the final product.

Geremia Losa, 33, became passionate regarding mushrooms when he discovered their fundamental role in the plant world, while studying soils during his training in biogeosciences in Lausanne. Alan Oggier, 36, graduated in biotechnology from Zurich, worked in a genetic engineering laboratory on yeast, ancestor of the fungal kingdom, and then moved to the study of macrofungi.

Alongside the cultivation activity, the two friends work. Alan is a researcher at the Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and Geremia teaches secondary school biology.
